Yes, second post and it appears that I've gone soft already. This blog was supposed to chronicle my distaste for birds (a.k.a. Rats with wings).
So, meet Bill the Kakapo. He is a member of the most endangered species on the planet. Here are some of the other things I just learned from the Kakapo Recovery Center:
- It's the heaviest parrot in the world
- It's possibly the longest-lived bird species in the world; the low adult mortality rate suggests a mean life expectancy of 90 years
- It's flightless
It's hard to be all snide when it's so endangered, so here's a half-hearted WTF, Bird? to the flightless parrot who can live to be 100, the Kakapo.
